Washington, DC voters passed Initiative 81 in November 2020 with 76% support, making the non-commercial possession, use, and cultivation of entheogenic plants and fungi — including psilocybin mushrooms — the lowest law-enforcement priority for the Metropolitan Police Department. Initiative 81 did not legalize psilocybin: it remains illegal under the federal Controlled Substances Act, which applies with full force in the District.
