Several widely recognized bar brands are sold with no consistent manufacturer, no testing, and wildly different contents from batch to batch — some have been found to contain research chemicals rather than any mushroom at all.

Legally sold bars are made with Amanita muscaria extract or functional mushrooms. Those are unscheduled federally and can be sold in shops, which is why Florida, Texas, Nevada, and Illinois retailers stock them openly.

Bars containing psilocybin are a controlled substance. In Oregon and Colorado, psilocybin is administered as measured product inside a licensed setting — not sold as a take-home bar.
