There are exactly two places in the United States where an adult can legally consume psilocybin: an Oregon service center licensed by the Oregon Health Authority, and a Colorado healing center licensed by the Department of Regulatory Agencies. Everything else — every shop, every delivery service, every church — operates outside a licensing framework.
Both programs are non-medical. You do not need a diagnosis, prescription, or referral, and neither state has a residency requirement, so out-of-state adults 21+ can book. You complete a preparation meeting, consume a measured dose on site under supervision for several hours, and usually have an integration session afterward.
Costs run roughly $500 to $3,500 depending on dose, group versus private, and the center. Insurance does not cover it. Product is lab-tested and the facilitator is state-licensed — that testing and supervision is the practical difference between a licensed session and a gray-market purchase.
New Mexico enacted a medical psilocybin program in 2025, but it is still in rulemaking and no providers are open yet.
